Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation offers its subscribers a wide range of services and tools that enable them
to document the severity of patient disability and the results of medical rehabilitation in a uniform way.
Establishing a common language promotes communication about disability across disciplines and provides a basis for
comparison of rehabilitation outcomes.

History of UDSMR
UDSMR was developed with support from the U.S. Department of Education, National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research,
grant number G008435062. The goal of the project was to develop a method to meet the longstanding need to document the severity of
patient disability and the outcomes of medical rehabilitation. The national task force that created the Uniform Data Set for Medical
Rehabilitation, starting in 1983, was cosponsored by the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine, the American Academy of Physical
Medicine and Rehabilitation as well as 11 other national professional organizations. Today, over 1,400 facilities in the United States,
New Zealand, Norway, France, Australia, Canada, S. Korea, Singapore, Chile, Estonia, Finland, Uruguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Spain,
Switzerland, United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, and Mexico subscribe to UDSMR, and the databases include over
16 million patient assessments. UDSMR has territorial agreements with Canada, Sweden, Hong Kong, Italy, Finland, and South Africa.

In April 2005, Dr. Carl Granger was granted Individual Honor Role Membership by the Board of Governors of the ISPRM (International Society
of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine). This honor is granted to an Active Member, following a proposal by any Active National Society
Member or Active Individual Member, as a mark of respect in recognition of distinguished contributions to the field of physical medicine
and rehabilitation.
